The weather is getting cold and the fishing has slowed somewhat. The best bite has been for redfish. The best bite has been on a low tide when the reds have pulled off of the shallow flats and in the ditches the drain the marsh. The best bait has been redshad in a 4" sea shad by Bass Assassin. It is best to tip the jig with some sort of attractant. There are still some flounder being caught. Most have been undersized but there are still some keepers to be had. The trout bite has been tough due to the run off from the rains and the muddy water that follows. The best bite has been in 4-7 feet of water. The best bait has been morning glory/chart. Work the bait slow and close to the bottom.

The birds are still working and the fish are still biting. The topwater bite has slowed down but the fish will still hit when the are actively feeding. The best baits have been Berkley's Power Shrimp in a white color. The best action has been in 4-6 feet of water and is best between Coffee Ground Cove to Willow Bayou. More redfish are starting to show up in the cooler with the best bite being on the outside edge of the bird on the bottom with a slow retrieve. Flounder fishing is still good with some really nice fish being caught at the mouths of the bayous in Sabine Lake. The best trip so far this month has been a 26 flounder to 5 pounds. The best bait has been glow cocoho tipped with shrimp.

The fronts have started coming and the fishing has been outstanding under the birds. The best action has been from Blue Buck Point to Johnson's Bayou in 5-8 feet of water. The bigger trout have been hitting topwaters along with a few reds mixed in. The best way to catch the reds has been to throw on the outside of the schools with a 1/2 oz. spoon. Gold has seem to work the best. When the topwater bite has turned off the fish are hitting just about any color bait you throw out there. The flounder bite has been hot. The best bite has been on a moderate outgoing tide. The best bait has been a white split tail tipped with a piece of FishBites.

The bite at the short rigs is hot. The best color has been glow on a 3/8 jig head. Fish it right on the bottom and close to the rig. Lots of trout and sand trout. The major problem at the rigs has been the Spanish mackerel. If you find a rig loaded with mackerel its best to move to another to avoid losing numerous jigs. There have been a few triple tail caught when the water turn right. Keep a watchful eye out for Ling. I have caught some big Ling while trout fishing. When the seas are to rough to go offshore the bite in the channel has been hot. Fish the edge off drop-offs in 5-7 feet of water. The best colors have been glow and woodpecker.

I dont know why mother nature likes to play jokes on outdoorsmen/women but she
does. It seems like everytime the lake starts shaping up for its regular
summer pattern the bottom falls out and we get 5" of rain in one day. The
fishing at the Sabine Pass Jetties is still great however. The best bait is on an
incoming and slack tide. On one trip last week our party caught
30 trout in hour and a half. They hit plastics well but they hammered the
catch 2000 in the glow color. They want the bait popped not jigged. The topwater bite
is still good. Best color has beeen soild black top dog.
On the offshore scene the action has been steady. The ling are in pretty close. The
triple tail fishing has also been steady. Find a good patch of weeds and
you will find the triple tail. They can be finicky sometimes but the best
baits seem to be live shrimp under a popping cork.

The fishing at the Sabine Jetties has still been hot. The best bite has been on an
incoming tide early in the morining. The best colors have been glow/chart
plastics when the water is clear. When the wind kicks up and the water is
off, the best color has been pumpkin seed/chart soft plastics. The topwater bite has been outstanding before sunrise until about 1 hour after sun up. The best color
has been glow she dogs. On the beach front the bite has been good when the
wind allows the green water to reach the beach. The best bite has been
topwater in chrome/blue back top dogs.

The fish have really showed up at the jetties. The wind has been laying in
the morining allowing for some great fishing til late in the afternoon. The
key is to fish the tides. The beach has also been hot early in the morining.
Topwater seems to been the best bait in the surf. The best color has been
Glow She Dogs. Once the bite in the surf slow you have a couple of options.
You can fish the short rigs or go to the jetties. The short rigs has been hit
or miss, but when its right its outstanding. Trout, TripleTail, Spanish
Mackerel, Jacks, Redfish, Sharks and even Ling. We hooked about a 30lb Ling
about 2 miles off the beach, so bring your heavy tackle with you. The best
bait has been Glow/Chart bass assassins. Live bait has also been a killer,
mullet and croakers beening the best baits.

Fishing has been good when the wind lays. The fish are starting to show up at
the Jetties. The best colors have been Pumpkin Seed/Chart with a 1/4 ounce
jig head. The fish want the bait right on the bottom. We are also catching
some fish on live bait. Live shrimp have been the best when we can get them
but we are also catching some soild fish on mullet and shad. The lake has
been hit and miss. One day the birds are working and the next they are not
working at all. The best baits have been red/whits shrimp tails lures.
Topwater is also taking it fair share of nice trout. The besr color has been
white with a red head.

The birds or still working in lake when you can get out there due to the
wind. Shrimp tail jigs have been working great. Anything in a white or pink
have been taking good numbers of keeper fish. When the conditions allow
topwater has been the ticket for big soild keeper trout. Glow has been the
hot color with some also being taken on chart/red head top dogs. The big
fish have been on the outside edges of the birds. Keith Lake has really
turned on as of late. The best bite has been on an incoming tide in the cut,
bouncing jigs off the bottom. Depending on the water clarity the best baits
have been glow/chart or cee biscuit in clear water or limetruse and red shad
in muddy water.

Fishing has been great in the lake when the wind is not blowing. Drift
fishing in front of the bayous on the Louisanna shoreline has paid off the
best. The best bite has been on an out going tide. The best colors have been
red shad and morining glory, with 1/4 ounce jig head. When the wind has been
to strong we are fishing the ship channel and the intercoastal waterways.
The best bite has been on an incoming tide. The best colors have been cee
biscuit fished with a 1/8 jig head. Flounder fishing has been hit or miss.
One day you can go and catch 10 to 15 keepers and the next day you may only
have 1 or 2 keepers. The best baits have been chart. split tail jigs tipped
with shrimp.

The trout and flounder fishing has improved. With the lack of rain that we
have had has spread the fish over Sabine Lake. I found the best fishing
has been on an outgoing tide. Fishing near the Louisanna shore has been
the best bet for trout and flounder. Drift fishing has paid off with the best
baits being Red shad or Morining Glory Bass Assassins. There has been some bird
action on the north end of the lake, but it is hit and miss. With the water
warming quickly this should push the flounder fishing up an couple of weeks.
It should be a banner spring!

The birds are still working just not as much as earlier in the fall. Redfish
are steady in the North end of the lake when the wind allows you to fish up
there. Best colors eem to be Redshad or morining glory. With the fronts
coming in pretty regularly now the wind doesnt allow to many picture perfect
days for fishing. Its cold one day and alomost hot the next. If you put in
alittle time you will find some great winter fishing action.
